The Fault in Our Stars: A Book Review

I liked The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.  I liked it because it wasn't a Love Story or a Cancer Story, it was a Life Story.  While love and cancer do constitute much of the book, the main focus seemed, at least to me, the worth or worthlessness of life: something with which Hazel and Augustus must both grapple.

The best part of the book for me though was the John Green-ness of it.  As someone who has watched his videos on YouTube, I could identify parts from which he had subtly draw from his own life.  It was neat reading a book by an author of whom I had originally known in a non-literary context.  There were also a myriad of literary allusions sprinkled throughout the text that just made the literary fan girl in my squeal.

I have often accused John Green of "using beautiful words and stringing them together in beautiful sentences" and this book was no exception.  My favorite line from the book was "My thoughts are stars I can't fathom into constellations." Kudos to you, John Green.  I enjoyed the book, and I can't wait to read more by the author.

One Simple Goal

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a girl in possession of a good many books must be in want of a library.

Unfortunately, a library of one's own can be rather difficult to acquire.  That is why I must settle for bookshelves and stacks of books, while living vicariously through other libraries.  Since coming to college I've found that the libraries offer me so much: books for class, a quite place to study on a Sunday afternoon, warm rooms in the dead of winter.  Could I ask for much more?

There are 26 different libraries and special collections on campus.  Each one is unique, each one has its own personality, and each one holds its secrets.

This leads me to my One Simple Goal:

I want to visit every library and special collection on campus, and chronicle the adventures that I have.  Who knows what each one will have in store?  Of course I'll try to visit other libraries along the way, but for now this is all I want to accomplish.  Let's see where it takes me!

For now, here are some beautiful library pictures:
